P-Net warns EC of lawsuit

The People's Network for Elections in Thailand (P-Net) will file lawsuits against the Election Commission (EC) if it fails to issue letters clarifying the false allegation against P-Net by the end of this month, a co-ordinator said yesterday.

Somchai Srisutthiyakorn said P-Net would file both criminal and civil charges against Election Commissioner Sodsri Satayatham and a civil lawsuit against EC members and the secretary-general.

The agency will ask for Bt80 million in compensation and the money will be used for P-Net's activities if it wins the case.

However, the EC secretary-general Sutthipol Taweechaikarn said the fact that the accusation against P-Net was mistakenly made was already widely known. Therefore, the EC did not need to do anything more.

The EC had earlier claimed that P-Net received Bt80 million from the EC to monitor the election last year without proper accounting.

P-Net maintains it had not received any money from the EC for the last five years.
