Chakrit Siwapornrang-san, 40, a motorcycle repairman, fire his gun at his neighbours for drinking and making a lot of noise at 8:40pm in Soi Dao district, police said.
He then drove his pickup truck to the house of his wife in another village.
District police chief Col Prakan Prachong said the man became angry after he did not find his wife there, so he shot and killed his mother-in-law and wounded his father-in-law. He later fled to a cane plantation and engaged in a gunfight with police at about midnight, wounding two of them.
The suspect took another man hostage early yesterday but surrendered after his sister and a police friend negotiated with him.
"He is under serious stress and that triggered the quarrel with his neighbours," said Colonel Aungkool Poolcharoen, the deputy provincial police commander.
