Thirachai lashes back at AEC

Securities and Exchange Commission Secretary-General Thirachai Phuvanatnaranubala on Friday issued a statement to express his resentment over the Assets Examination Committee's comments on the SEC's efficiency.

In the statement, he referred to the comment by Sak Korsangruang, an AEC member, that the committee was considering if it would deliver information on Shin Corp shareholding by Win Mark to the SEC. Sak also said if the SEC had done its job perfectly, the AEC would not have worked this hard.

"This accusation not only tarnishs the SEC, which is an important organisation in the capital market but also affects local and foreign investor confidence in the Thai market," Thirachai said.

"The SEC is of the opinion that all parties should work together in solving the Shin Corp case... The SEC welcomes investigations on our operations. On Shin Corp case, I would like to ask the AEC to send us any information deemed in violation of the securities law so that the SEC could further investigate the issue and inform the public, to enhance confidence in the Thai market."
