
Apiradee Tantraporn, director-general of the External Trade Department, said 4 bidders joined the bid for domestic distribution at the bidding price range of Bt7,510-Bt8,800 per tonne. There are six bidders vying for export with the price range of Bt7,500-Bt8,910.
"We based hte decision on actual demand and we had conducted negotiations with all bidders for fairness," she said. Following the negotiations, the department successfully raised the bid price for domestic distribution to Bt8,850 and the export price to Bt8,700-Bt8,910 per tonne.
Chaiyaporn won the domestic bid for 16,715 tonnes of rice at the bid price of Bt8,850 per tonne. It is also one of four winners in the export bid for 302,006 tonnes, at the bid price of Bt8,700-Bt8,910.
The department is confident that Thailand would achieve its rice export target of 8.5 million tonnes.
