The state agency, which is chaired by General Saprang Kalayanamitr, plans to roll out a nationwide broadband network at a cost of Bt976 million.
It is negotiating to procure the equipment from China's ZTE.
ShinSat tie-up
Shin Satellite has signed a cooperation agreement with Time dotCom, Malaysia's leading telecom solutions provider, to deploy its iPSTAR broadband satellite services in Malaysia in the last quarter of the year, it said in a press release yesterday.
The iPSTAR gateway will be located in Time's facilities in Kuala Lumpur. Time provides broadband services to both domestic and international markets.
Tourism forum
The Asean Tourism Forum 2008 (ATF 2008) will be held in Bangkok from January 18-26 next year.
Under the theme, "Synergy of Asean towards Dynamic Unity in Diversity", the annual gathering of high-level Asean tourism public and private-sector officials, airlines and hundreds of buyers is designed to showcase the best of Asean tourism products and services.
"By 2008, we expect that many of the growth-drivers, such as low-cost airlines, open skies, improved road and rail networks, will be in place," Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Phornsiri Manoharn said yesterday.
Biogas proposal
The Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency Department is preparing to propose a budget of Bt1 billion to the committee for the Energy Conservation Fund to support power generation through biogas produced from waste.
Director-general Panich Pongpirodom yesterday said the department would encourage communities which generate no more than 100 tonnes of waste daily to join the project.
The target communities number 1,537 nationwide. The project will run from next year until 2011.
Panich said the committee would consider the department's proposal on September 21. -
