Police are looking for a woman known as Dao, who acted as one of two witnesses who signed paperwork for a car sold to Kurt Schmolke, 59.
Schmolke, a former German naval officer from Lahnstein on the Rhine River, was stabbed at his home in Bang Lamung by two people and his house set on fire.
Police searched on Sunday for the car, a silver Honda sedan, and found it yesterday - with Michael Schmidt, another German national sitting inside. They questioned Schmidt, who acted as one of two witnesses to the sale of the car, but believed he was not involved in the murder.
Police said Schmidt told them Schmolke refused to pay an inflated commission to local gangs via the woman. But Schmidt did not identify any people linked to the sale, they said. Dao was described as tall, slim, dark, with curly hair.
Police are also looking into football gambling after finding documents recording European football results in Schmolke's home that survived the fire, as well as his bank account, with about Bt3 million in it, despite being in Thailand for only a month.
