Samart iMobile restructures wholesale business

Samart iMobile Plc (SIM) has restructured its wholesale handset sales business by assigned its existing handset importer subsidiary Samart Mobile Services (SMS) to focus only distributing global brand handsets, while itself will focus on its own iMobile phone brand. Earlier SIM had distributed both iMobile and international brand phones together but the new structure will enable SIM and SMS to have a strong focus. Both companies also have separate management teams.

SMS, which was assigned to distribute handsets of SonyEricsson, Samsung, LG, and Motorola, has planned to introduce over 10 handset highend models in the last quarter.

SIM's president Thananan Vilailuck said that SIM targets total sales of both iMobile and international brand handsets of around 3 million units at the end of this year, of which 2.4 million would be iMobile phones.

He added that during the remaining months of this year the company expects to sell total of one million handsets, of which 15 per cent would be contributed by the international brand phones.
