Sasithara promoted

Tourism and Sports deputy permanent secretary Sasithara Pichaichannarong has been appointed as the ministry's new permanent secretary, effective October 1.

Sasithara says she will set up a National Institute of Human Resource Development and continue working with Asean countries to develop human resources in the tourism industry.

Sansiri's new project

Property developer Sansiri has launched a new project called Saransiri Ring Road-Pracha-uthit, which will offer houses priced from Bt3 million to Bt5 million.

Senior marketing manager Samatcha Promsiri said the new project on Pracha-uthit Road is part of the company's policy of further penetrating the single-house market.

A "J-Fest" campaign will be held this weekend for the new project, in which potential clients will be treated to Japanese food and shows.

Gas to liquids

The Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corp has signed a memorandum of understanding with PTT to commence a feasibility study on the application of processes developed in Japan to PTT's natural-gas resources.

The processes involve the conversion of natural gas into liquids.

The two organisations have also agreed to investigate possible ways of further commercialising PTT's natural-gas resources.

The gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology was developed by the Japanese firm in collaboration with the Nippon GTL Technology Research Association.

Best destination

Bangkok has beaten out three other cities to win the 2007 Libur-Traverama Tourism Award for Best International Destination.

The Thai capital beat Sydney, Yogyakarta and Macao in a poll of readers of travel magazines Libur and Traverama.

Libur is a monthly travel magazine in Malay with a readership of 100,000, while Traverama is an English-language monthly travel magazine with a readership of 250,000. Both are sold in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei and Indonesia.

More than half the readers voted for Bangkok.
