Lunar celebrations and afternoon treats

Shine on,harvest moon

Published on August 29, 2007

Celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival at the Peninsula Bangkok, where families gather to honour the Moon Goddess by sharing a special traditional meal and mooncakes.

Guests will be celebrating in the award-winning Mei Jiang Cantonese restaurant over an eight-course feast. On offer are roasted suckling pig with barbecued duck and jellyfish salad, braised shark's-fin soup with crab meat and conpoy, stir-fried prawns Mei Jiang-style with crispy milk fritters, and braised sliced abalone with shimeiji mushrooms and oyster sauce.

Top these treats off with a refreshing pumpkin pudding with black sesame seeds and a Peninsula Mooncake.

The Mid-Autumn set menu is available at lunch and dinner for Bt1,500 per person.

The hotel's mooncakes are also now on sale at the restaurant, the Peninsula Boutique and at the Peninsula Boutique & Café at Siam Paragon.

They're available in two flavours - Lotus Paste and Original Egg Custard - and presented in exquisite boxes of eight for Bt450.

Splendid tea at the Royal Orchid

If city life is getting too fatiguing, the remedy awaits at Bangkok's Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel and Towers, where there's a new menu for Afternoon Tea in the Lobby Lounge.

This is no snack break. Afternoon Tea offers a wide range of fresh, creative desserts to add a little sweetness to your life.

Among the treats in store are home-made macaroons filled with pistachio, strawberry, vanilla and dark chocolate mousse, served with berry compote.

The Pyramid is a great combination of mango mousse cake, lemon meringue tart and chocolate brownie.

The exotic refreshments are served in warm and comfy surroundings with a choice of Dilmah tea or Illy coffee.

Afternoon Tea is served in the ground floor Lobby Lounge daily from 2 to 5pm and priced at Bt300.
