Sevilla travel with worries; Liverpool look to finish the job

Hamburg- UEFA Cup champions Sevilla take a 2-0 lead to AEK Athens but do not travel to the Greek capital in the best of spirits as they seek to secure a place in the main Champions League stage on Tuesday.

The Spanish side are still in shock after Antonio Puerta suffered a heart attack during Saturday's 4-1 league win against Getafe, while want-away fellow defender Daniel Alves has withdrawn from the squad as he does not want to be cup-tied in Europe for another club.

Sevilla president Jose Maria Del Nido has been angered by the decision.

"It shows a complete lack of respect to his team-mates given the tough times we're going through with Antonio Puerta's condition and what's at stake," he said.

The night's second leg matches of the third-round qualifying round ties should see Liverpool finish the job they began two weeks ago when they beat Toulouse 1-0 in France.

Last season's losing finalists will be without defender Jamie Carragher, who suffered a collapsed lung and broken rib in Saturday's 2-0 win at Sunderland.

Fellow defender Sami Hyypia broke his nose in the same game, while captain Steven Gerrard was missing with a broken toe.

Elsewhere Tuesday, Red Star Belgrade will be out to overturn a 1-0 loss at Scottish side Rangers.

Rangers security chief Kenny Scott has warned that supporters could face hostile policing at the match.

"We have to remember the history of Serbia and their policing is still typically Eastern European, almost militaristic," he said.

"I expect the local police to exert a strong control over our fans.

"My best advice to our supporters therefore is basically to follow the police's instructions."

In the evening's other games, Dinamo Bucharest meet Lazio with the score at 1-1, Benfica are in Copenhagen holding a 2-1 lead, while Spanish club Valencia are comfortably 3-0 in front for the return leg at Swedish side Elfsborg.

The remaining 10 second-leg matches are on Wednesday. The draw for the 32-team group stage will be held in Monaco on Thursday evening.
