Tongdaeng 'doing fine'

His Majesty the King said yesterday that his favourite dog, Khun Tongdaeng, was still alive and well. His Majesty expressed surprise at a widespread rumour that Khun Tongdaeng was dead.

"How can some people say that she is dead? She is now nine years old and still alive and well. She usually walks after me," His Majesty was quoted as saying by Thai language newspaper Matichon.

The King said Khun Tongdaeng had pure Thai blood but her children did not.

"Her children have African blood," he said. "Her husband is still well. By nature, her husband will not bark but now he can bark in Thai as Khun Tonglang [another dog belonging to the King] has taught him," His Majesty joked during an audience with senior bankers and business representatives on Wednesday.

They were reporting on research on the production and development of Chai Pattana Machines.
