First new political party registered after ban lifted

Chat Pattana Party on Tuesday became the first new political party to register with the Election Commission after a ban was lifted last week.

The party leader Piyawat Limpabhandhu is a son of Prapas Limpabhandhu, a former Chat Pattana Party deputy leader and former deputy foreign minister. There were 21 co-founders of the party.

Piyawat said he had planned for the registration for a long time as he had felt a lot attachment to it before it was merged into the Thai Rak Thai Party.

The party's secretary-general is Sirirat Temboonsaran.

The ban on registering new political parties was imposed by the coup makers last September.
