SET closes down 3.49%

Thai shares closed 3.49 per cent lower on Tuesday on renewed worries over the credit markets and the fallout in the US subprime mortgage market and profit-taking following a 4-per cent gain on Monday.

The SET index immediately after the curtain was raised extended the strong gain but it since late first trading session succumbed to profit-taking and closed at the day's trough at 764.40.

PTT Plc (PTT) dropped 4.17 per cent at Bt276, PTT Exploration and Production Plc (PTTEP) lost 7.02 per cent at Bt106, Bangkok Bank (BBL) fell 5.04 per cent at Bt113 and bank of Ayudhya (BAY) went down 8.80 per cent at Bt22.80.
