FTI sets up herbs club

On growing demand and export forThai herbs, the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has set up herbs club in a bid to develop integrated manufacturer and strengthen the country's export competitiveness.



In addition, the FTI will also propose to take out herbs and herb products out of the control of the Drug Act.

The FTI together with concerned government and private agencies agreed on Tuesday to set up the Herbs Club under FTI. The club is involved with eight categories including fresh herbs, herbs for animal, extract herbs, food and supplymentary food, spa and alternative medicine.  

Adisak Sreesunpagit, directorgeneral of Agricultural Department, said the club will help encourage the herb industry development as well as technology transfer. It is also strengthen cooperation between manufacturers and farmers to achieve integrated manufactring goal.

"Having the club will force herb growers to join hands in setting standard farm to have high standard herb medicine both for human and animals," he said, adding that high quality raw materials will also boost Thai spa products.
