Colonel Wibulyuth Santhatvech, Lt-Colonel Jak Jittham, Lt-Colonel Sumitr Srinuan, Major Pansak Woravibulsawat and Major Khomkrit Wibulsributr have been assigned to civil duties for 30 days.

City police chief Lt-General Adisorn Nonsee said the five had to take responsibility for allowing vice in their jurisdiction to be stopped by another police unit.

Crime suppression officers led by Colonel Warayuth Sukhawat made the arrests.

A committee will take 15 days to investigate the matter and whether any of the five deliberately ignored the gambling den or were involved with it, Adisorn said.

The committee's findings will be submitted to Lt-General Phichan Chittirat and a team for determination of a case to answer by the five or of evidence of the involvement of others more senior.
