Choose: Mobile phone or lucky talisman?

Speaking of movies, there's been an interesting contrast in the ways "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "Muay Thai Chaiya" have been promoted in Bangkok.

The Matt Damon flick's puff-up was a bit of hi-tech razzle-dazzle in a joint promotion with Motorola. The latter was offering discounts on its gear if you saw the film at any SF Cinema.

But at a special charity screening this Saturday of the Thai martial-arts film, it's a step back to Siam boran: Everyone gets a Jatukam amulet - a Jatukam Ramathep Chaiya Mahaheng, no less.

We are keen, to say the least, to compare how the two promotions fare.

If you're interested in the "Muay Thai Chaiya" screening, it's at 11am at the Major Ratchayothin. Tickets are Bt299, or Bt999 for an opera seat, but everyone who shows up gets a lucky charm.

The proceeds go to former Thai athletes who are in need of financial support.

"Muay Thai Chaiya" earned high praise from the critics following its World Film Festival of Bangkok premiere. It is, added festival director Kriengsak "Victor" Silakong, "the best Thai martial-arts film so far".
