Five policemen transferred for ignoring gambling

Five Bang Phong Phang policemen were on Sunday transferred to Metropolitan Police headquarters following Crime Suppression Division arrests of 43 gamblers at a Soi Klabchom den in Yan Nawa district of Bangkok.

Colonel Wibulyuth Santhatvech, LtColonel Jak Jittham, LtColonel Sumitr Srinuan, Major Pansak Woravibulsawat and Major Khomkrit Wibulsributr have been assigned to civil duties for 30 days.

City police chief LtGeneral Adisorn Nonsee said the five had to take responsibility for allowing vice in their jurisdiction to be stopped by another police unit.

Crime suppression officers led by Colonel Warayuth Sukhawat made the arrests.

A committee will take 15 days to investigate the matter and whether any of the five deliberately ignored the gambling den or were involved with it, Nonsee said.

The committee's findings will be submitted to LtGeneral Phichan Chittirat and a team for determination of a case to answer by the five or of evidence of the involvement of others more senior.
