Meanwhile, Thailand got an unexpected 13th gold yesterday courtesy of their golfers.

The Chinese snatched three gold medals in the diving competition to take their haul to 30. Russia claimed a single gold from gymnastic's group apparatus competition  (three gymnasts in hoop and two in clubs). Ukraine, who were third overnight, made a big leap, winning five gold medals to relegate Russia to third.

Graceful rhythmic gymnast Anna Bessonova made a clean sweep of four individual apparatuses  and lifted the team title in the group apparatus.

Japan took both gold medals in the men's and women's team judo events, while Montenegro captured the men's water polo title after beating Italy 11-8. Canada narrowly beat Taiwan 5-4 to take the women's softball crown.
