"Deputy Public Health Minister Morakot Kornkasem has assigned the Medical Registration Division to look into the case against Pathumvech Hospital," ministry spokesman Suphan Srithamma said yesterday.
He said relevant officials would start the investigation today and the results would
be considered alongside the baby's autopsy result.
According to the baby's father, well-known pathologist Khunying Pornthip Rojana-sunand will carry out the autopsy this morning.
Theeradej Deeprasit, who was less than two months old, was brought to the Pathumvech Hospital on Saturday with pustules near his anus. A doctor checked the baby's condition and prescribed him a bottle of antibiotics with an instruction that the baby needed another medical visit if his condition did not improve within three days.
After Somnuk Deeprasit brought his young son home, the baby was given the medicine but did not sleep. The next morning, he discovered the boy was dead.
In his plea to Pornthip, Somnuk said he suspected that his son died of an overdose because the medicine bottle stated that it was suitable only for children aged two and older.
"My son was younger than that and before this, he was healthy," Somnuk said.
However, he said he would accept the results of the autopsy carried out by Pornthip.
"I trust her," the father said.
Somnuk said he did not believe the Pathumvech Hospital's theory that his son had died of suffocation while lying face down.
