Meanwhile, authorities are trying to help residents of six flood-affected villages in Ubon Ratchathani's Det Udom district by providing rice, canned fish and drinking water.

The Meteorological Department has warned that Tak province is at risk of floods.

A strong southwest monsoon prevailing over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand will cause heavy downpours in lower northern and northeastern parts, particularly Tak.

Provinces facing heavy rain are Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Nong Khai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Sakon Nakhon and Nakhon Phanom.

The monsoon will cause scattered thundershowers in all parts of the country - 60 per cent of northern, northeastern and eastern provinces, 40 per cent of central provinces and 20 per cent of southern provinces.

High waves measuring two metres are expected in the upper Gulf and the Andaman Sea. All ships should proceed with caution over the next few days, the department warned.
