Cramp Holds Weerapat Back from First Title

[TENNIS] Weerapat Doakmaiklee's dream to give an ITF trophy to his mom on Mother's Day was torn into pieces yesterday after cramp forced him to retire during the third set final of the US$10,000 ITF Men's Futures 2 in Sermarang.

The unseeded Thai was getting close to his first ever championship when he was leading South Korean Kwon  Woh-Hee  6-4 3-6 3-1 and 40-0. But he was not destined to it.

After running to whip a forehand winner for a triple break point at 3-1 on the South Korea serve in the decider, cramp struck his leg. The Thai bended over backward to continue play but when Kwon drew at 3-3, his body suggested it was time to stop.

"I could not move anymore. I was sad to have to lose a match like this. It was so hot and we played like three hours,'' said Weerapat who will try to lift up his first title in Jakarta next week.
