"Personally I think this is the most beautiful phone that's ever been designed," says Ian Chapman-Banks, vice president of Motorola's Asia Pacific Marketing.
"I think it will redefine the category with a thinner but totally different finish."
The new model is two millimetres slimmer, with a more futuristic design of vacuum metallic material combined with a soft finish.
To celebrate the launch, Shanghai Portman Ritz Carlton Hotel created a futuristic Hollywood poolside soiree, with shimmering silver lighting to reflect the mercury finish of the new smartphone. The Chinese love their stars, and fans screamed loudly as hot actors Huang Shengyi, Li Xiaolu, Huang Xiaoming, Zheng Yuanchang and He Junxiang appeared on the stage to show off the mobiles phones.
Also attending the event were Vietnamese actresses Do Thi Hai Yen and Van Ngo Thanh Van, film director Quang Hai, celebrity host of AXN TV's "E Buzz", Choy Wan, and former Miss Singapore Eunice Olsen.
Special guest Kristin Davis, best known for her portrayal of Charlotte in TV's "Sex and the City" says she's thrilled to be the first in Hollywood to use the cellphone, which to her is like a piece of jewellery.
After the launch, it was time for to party and guests gathering at the stage, which glowed seductively with silvery blue lights. Drums and music were played. Dancers with blonde curls a la Christina Aguilera moved to the "Candyman" song while models, their bodies painted in metallic colours struck poses under the hot spotlights.
The highlight was a performance by a swimsuit-clad gymnast who twisted and twirled with amazing agility. The audience cheered as she plunged neatly into a small water bowl with the precision and style of a sleek fish.
