"We have placed particular attention on the North and Northeast," director-general Arak Sanghitkul said yesterday.

When the historical sites are shaken by ground motions, they are more prone to damage, as shown at Phra That Doi Suthep, Phra That Doi Inthanon, Phra That Phanom and Phra That Lampaing Luang.

"We check the strength of the historical structures before we repair and reinforce them," he said.

The department's work will serve to protect both the structures and people, he added.
