Ammar Siamwalla: Reduce Interest Rate

Ammar Siamwalla, Acting President of Thailand Development Research Institute, criticised the Bank of Thailand's decision to curb the rise of the Thai baht. He suggested the central bank should have reduced the interest rate to ease the pressure of the Thai baht since December instead of imposing the capital control measures.

Speaking at the National Legislative Assembly's session on Thursday afternoon, he said that the central bank should have a clear policy on the strategy to take care of the baht, instead of imposing the 30 per cent capital control requirement which panicked the investors.

Jada Wattanasiritham, a NLA member, suggested the government to introduce the exit tax to curb the inflow of foreign capital.
