Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet said that 37.3 per cent of 221 surveyed exporters said export growth would increase during July-September, 44.3 per cent expected exports to be unchanged, while 18.4 per cent expected a drop.
Expected to enjoy growth are the exports of computers, electrical and electronic appliances, plastic products, automobiles, jewellery and accessories, food, canned food, frozen seafood, vegetables and para rubber. Facing softer demand are garments, furniture and rice.
Exporters also urged baht-stabilisation measures as well as a national election to restore foreign investors' confidence.
Warning over vegetable exports
Vegetable exporters should concentrate more on quality and export procedures after the European Union found problems with imports from Thailand in 70 instances.
Agriculture Department director-general Adisak Sreesunpagit said yesterday that the EU found export documents of Thai vegetables did not correspond with quality certificates. The goods were contaminated with insects and micro-organisms.
After investigation, the department found that these problem vegetable came from illegal exporters.
Happy birthday for regional bloc
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Asean cooperation, the Commerce Ministry will open an "Asean Information Corner" at the ministry's library tomorrow.
The project will also encourage people to understand the move to the Asean Economic Community by 2015.
Pig farmers warned to delay
The Swine Raisers Association of Thailand has warned farmers to delay starting the breeding of new pigs, even though the price of pork is increasing.
President Surachai Sutthitham said that farmers should delay breeding due to plentiful organic crops and natural foods that enter the market in the third quarter.
