National Gambling Control Commission to be established

The Social Development and Human Security Ministry will ask the Cabinet to establish the National Gambling Control Commission.

The new commission will be entrusted with controlling all gambling activities and tackling gambling-related problems.

"The commission will also campaign against vices and gambling," Social Development and Human Security Minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham said Monday.

A survey has estimated that there are between 20 and 30 million gamblers in Thailand, some of them involved in various forms of gambling.

The most popular forms of gambling are Government Lottery Office six-digit lotteries, two and three-digit lotteries, underground lotteries, Government Savings Bank lotteries, Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives lotteries and gambling on football-match results.
