NTC may cut Type-3 licence fees and lower revenue target

The telecom regulator will soon consider cutting its Type-3 licence fee to 2.1-2.3 per cent of annual revenue, from the current 3 per cent.

Type-3 licences are for service providers with their own large network.

To reflect the reduction in fee income, the National Telecom-munications Commission might revise its target for total regulatory revenue this year from the original Bt2.8 billion. First-half revenue was Bt731 million.

NTC deputy secretary-general Thakorn Pantasit said last week that the watchdog was also demanding last year's overdue regulatory fees of Bt400 million and Bt300 million respectively from its two main licensees, TOT and CAT Telecom.

Last year the licensing body realised revenues of Bt2.7 billion out of the target of Bt2.8 billion.

The NTC spent Bt1.3 billion on administrative expenses, including payroll, Bt514 million on supporting the telecom development fund, and Bt150 million on setting up the consumer protection institute.

The remaining income was forwarded to the government.
