AEC 'unfazed' by Pojaman's lawsuit

The Assets Examination Committee has no qualms about the Bt50-billion civil lawsuit filed against it on Friday by Khunying Pojaman Shinawatra, wife of former prime minister Thaksin.

"Never mind the litigation; I think it is rather good to have a judicial review to ensure impartiality in the committee's work," member Khunying Jaruvan Maintaka said yesterday.

Pojaman sued for damage and lost business opportunities that she claimed were caused by the committee's order freezing her family's assets.

Jaruvan said tongue-in-cheek that the Shinawatra family should appeal for the release of its frozen wealth, as that would require proof of honest earnings.

Meanwhile, the Amnuay Tantara panel investigating the CTX bomb-detection equipment deal has asked Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont to intervene for a speedy translation of key evidence.

US authorities recently forwarded Federal Bureau of Investigation and Securities and Exchange Commission reports implicating Thai politicians in bribes to secure the deal.

Officials at the Foreign Ministry are translating the two reports.
