Traffic congestion feared during big sports event

Bangkok motorists are warned to avoid roads leading to the venues of the 24th Universiade sports competitions in the capital where traffic congestion is expected.



More than 10,000 competitors from 156 countries will participate in the international competition, which will run from August 8 to August 18.

According to the FM 91 Traffic Pro radio station, the Universiade competitions will take place at the Srinakharinwirot University's stadium on Sukhumvit Road, the National Stadium on Rama I Road, and Bangkok Youth Centre's stadium on Mitmaitree Road, Kasetsart University on Paholyothin Road.

Other venues in Bangkok are Royal Thai Army's stadium on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Sports Authority of Thailand's stadium on Ramkhamhaeng Road, and Assumption University's stadium on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 24.

There are five other venues in Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani.

"Please avoid these roads if possible," Jaiton Sriwangpon, a host of the radio station, said.

The station has been operating under the National Police Office.
