The value was Bt48.712 billion, up 20 per cent year on year.
In a press release yesterday, the company said it expected its export value for the full year to exceed Bt95 billion.
"Overall export growth was driven in part by the strong performance of automobile exports, which grew 25 per cent to Bt31.219 billion," said president and CEO Tatsuhiro Oyama.
"In addition, we had solid growth in our motorcycle exports, which were up 17 per cent to Bt10.798 billion over the same period last year. We're confident that our exports in the second half will meet the target volume."
Automobile completely built-up (CBU) and completely knocked-down (CKD) kits make up 64 per cent of Honda exports from Thailand. This is followed by motorcycle CBU and CKD kits at 22 per cent, power products at 11 per cent and miscellaneous items like spare parts at 3 per cent.
Automobile CBU exports increased 34 per cent by volume year on year in the first half, from 28,018 units to 37,554. Among all Honda automobile models, the Civic was the best-selling export model at 9,381 units, followed by the CRV at 9,191 units and the City at 8,817 units. Much of this growth was due to strong acceptance of Honda Thailand products from customers in Australia. Automobile CBU kits exported to Australia increased 68.41 per cent, from 14,570 units to 24,538.
Honda motorcycles are exported to more than 30 countries, mainly within Europe and Asean. First-half motorcycle CBU exports increased 15 per cent by value, with a major contribution from the new release of the CBR 125 in Europe. In addition, significant growth of 18 per cent by value was registered in CKD kits, due to market expansion within Asean. Total first-half export value of Honda motorcycle CBU and CKD kits reached Bt10.798 billion.
