Thailand urges Asean to apply JTEPA as model

Thailand will urge the rest of Asean countries to apply the model of the recently concluded Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA) for the regional trade pact agreements.

Winichai Chaemchaeng, deputy director-general of the Trade Negotiations Department, said on Tuesday that Thailand has talked with other Asean countries to use the Jtepa model.

"If Asean countries decided not to use Jtepa model, the country may consider not to accept the pacts as it would not be beneficial to both negotiating countries," said he.

Tokyo and Bangkok are awaiting for implementing the bilateral trade agreement in November this year, delaying from the original schedule in October as both sides have to work out on technical details of the tariff harmonized system. - The Nation
