Sampheng fire area sealed for investigation
Authorities in Bangkok's Samphanthawong district on Monday blocked public access to four shop houses near Sampheng Market that caught fire on Sunday night.
District chief Prasert Inthusoma said although an initial assessment found the building structure was still strong, he had issued a prohibition order preventing access pending an investigation into the cause of the fire.
At 9.45pm on Sunday night, fire broke out at the four shop houses - used to store cloth - in Soi Wanich 1 near Sampheng Market. Residents were forced to run for their lives.
Officials blocked Ratchawong Road as dozens of fire engines were brought in to fight the fire. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
The extent of the damage was still being assessed.
