Danai Suffer 1st Round Upset

Top seed Danai Udomchoke was knocked out of the US$50,000 Challenger Natrel in Granby, Canada after he lost a three-set thriller to Japanese veteran Takao Suzuki in the opening round on Monday.

Danai won the first set 6-2 but was kept at by bay by the Suzuki net pressure before losing 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in the following sets at the Le Club De Tennis De Granby.

Once again the Japanese serve-and-volleyer turned the tide against Danai as he also fought off a match point to beat the Thai during their encounter in the  Davis Cup tie in Osaka two years ago.

But Thailand still has two more representatives in the tournament as the doubles top seeds Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana have yet to kick off  their actions. Fresh from their back-to-back semi-final berths in ATP events in Newport and Los Angeles, the twins will play Erik Chvojka and Vasek Pospisil in the first round.
