The English FA cup holders won 1-0 thanks to a 49th minute John Terry goal.

Beckham came on in the 78th minute to huge cheers from the sellout 27,000 crowd. The Los Angeles Times called his "a polished performance" but with Chelsea dominating position his 13 minute contribution in central midfield consisted of a handful of passes and one corner kick.

The eagerly awaited game was attended by several stars, including Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes who watched from a corporate suite with Victoria Beckham. Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria was also there as was California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt and English actors John Hurt and Ray Winstone.

"It was nice to get out there and kick a soccer ball again. I haven't trained in weeks. It was just nice to be out there with the lads and get this game over and done with. I've enjoyed it," Beckham said. "It was very emotional. It was my first game here. My first appearance for the Galaxy tonight, and to get that was incredible." dpa
