Sweet sound of success

Famous Dutch violinist Theodora Geraete and Japanese pianist Jun Komatsu are performing a recital today with their young Thai pupils at the Christian Auditorium in Bangkok.

Published on July 22, 2007

The performance is the finale of a workshop at the centre funded by the Dutch Embassy that began on Monday and ended yesterday.

Geraete and Komatsu have been working with the students to give them in-depth training in various aspects of classical music.

The violinists had the opportunity to study with Geraete on an individual basis while the pianists received instruction from Komatsu. The master class and workshop were designed to encourage these young instrumentalists to pursue a career in classical music.

Participating in the violin workshop were Panatchakorn Anantho-thai, a student at St Andrews International; Ratthaphol Sup-sophon; Yada Lee; Anawin Savetbovorn, now a violin major at Silpakorn University; Pharadee Triratana, also a violin major at Silpakorn; Nonthaput Wongvej-viwat, a student at Harrow International; and Dechophol Kowinthaweewat, who has just gained admission to the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the US.

Taking part in the piano workshop were Saleela Phinyosanit, a piano major at Chulalongkorn University; Papon Kasemwut, now studying at Mahidol's College of Music; Suvida Neramitaram, an accounting student at Chulalongkorn; Sasipha Lertsuwi-molkul, a graduate of Kasetsart University; and Yosaphol Khanaviphakorn, a senior student at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music.

The event is sponsored by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation, Triniti Music Centre and the Dutch Embassy, and everyone is welcome to attend.

The venue is near Hua Chang Bridge and the Ratchathewi Skytrain station.
