Q: You are one of the tentative candidates announced last Sunday by the Ruam Jai Thai Group for the next election. Will you run in the upcoming poll?

I was considering running for the election. However, I am not yet a candidate.

Nonetheless, I think I'm ready for politics because my husband (Pornthep Techapaiboon, former science minister and former deputy leader of the Mahachon Party)inspired me. As a wife, I saw him since he was MP. I learned the ways of politicians from him.

Q: What do you think of people who say a beauty queen can't become a politician?

Today the image of the entertainment sector has changed. Previous elections proved that anyone can have the ability to help the country. I think being a beauty queen is not as important as knowledge that will help people. I received a masters degree in political science, which is my preparation for moving into politics.

I think people want to see a variety of candidates. People's attitudes have changed. In my view, people can accept anyone if they think that person can help them. Therefore, a beauty queen is no different from anyone else in politics.

Politicians are like artists. They can entertain and also be a spokesperson for local people.

Q: Which constituency might you run for?

I talked with Pornthep about constituencies. At least three are possible: Suphan Buri, my hometown; Buri Ram, Pornthep's former base; and Bangkok.

However, I'm a Suphan Buri resident. If possible I want to run for a Suphan Buri seat. Yet, as you know, the Suphan Buri seats belong to a big party. It seems we have little chance to win. The Ruam Jai Thai executives will consider again.

However, a Bangkok constituency is an alternative for me, but we have to wait and see.

Q: What do you do for the Ruam Jai Thai Group?

Khun Pradit (Pattaraprasit), the cofounder of the group, asked me to help by visiting people during the campaign, to explain policies. Whether I run in the election or not depends on the national referendum. It will be the final decider for me.

Q: Who is your political idol?

I have many idols and I try to learn good points from them. I've respected former prime Mminister Chuan Leekpai for his conduct. I've admired former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra for his administration.

Women politicians like Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan are admired by many people including me. And absolutely my husband is an idol for me. He has taught me everything I know about politics.
