The rate cut was lower than 100-150 basis points suggested earlier by prominent economists, Ammar Siamwalla and Virabongsa Ramangkura.

Suchada Kirakul, assistant governor, said that the MPC believes there is still risks affecting growth, while inflation rate in the first half of this year still remains low. The central bank stance slightly shifted from earlier MPC meeting of "neutral" by easing mildly to "almost neutral" as mentioned by Suchada.

Meanwhile, she said the central bank has alerady submitted a package of measure to stem baht appreciation and support outflows to the Finance Ministry. However, she declined to elaborate in details about the package. - The Nation
