AFET optimistic to recovering volume in second half

The Agricultural Futures Exchange of Thailand is optimistic to the second half sentiment, expecting the sluggish trading volume will recover by at least doubling the amount in the first half to 800 contracts per day.

Although the exchange targeted the daily trading volume for this year at 1,000 contracts per day, the first half, especial¬ly March and April, dragging the average trading volume to 400 contracts per day.

The threeyearold AFET recorded an average 100 contracts trading per day in the first year of operation. Last year posted a bit less than 600 contracts.

Napaporn Kurupasutachai, president of AFET, hoped that rice trading will share 20 per cent of the total trading while 80 per cent would be rubber trad¬ing. Compared to last year, the rubber trading accounted over 90 per cent of the total trading volume following the unex¬pected high rubber price in the global market.

Napaporn said that the baht appreciation has not affected the rice trading but the fact that the government didn't inter¬vene the price was the key success.
