If you're famous, you know we're going to trust you

No one buys anything these days unless some celebrity says it's okay. And, by the same token, if we don't keep giving celebrities new products to endorse, we could easily run out of stars altogether. They'd just die out like dodos.

This is a big worry for TV host ML Nattakorn "Khun Pluem" Devakul, who has agreed to risk his dignity as a future prime minister in order to flog some products on television and thus ensure the flow of new celebrities.

But only three products, that's all.

Ever since Fame first noticed him playing with the family dog while his father was giving a speech, Nattakorn has been approached numerous times to help sell something.

He's settled on three things. One is a Japanese car whose name we can't mention unless our advertising department sees a great big fat cheque first.

Nattakorn's catchy line in the TV spot is, "Everybody knows me, but nobody has heard of [your product here] yet."

And then there's Kitti Singhapat, TITV's deputy director of news, who has just joined ModerNine and is also often counted upon to speak seriously on the air.

Kitti said in a recent interview that there is no way he would ever appear in a commercial.

"No one says I can't - it's just my personal policy," he said seriously. "I think that, as a news anchor, giving my endorsement to products is not right."

It's true: You have never seen Kitti in an advertisement. On the other hand, he sure did promote the heck out of iTV and TITV.
