Veteran actor Chucheep "Tuam Toranong" Chumchongyuth died yesterday of heart failure. He was 81.

Published on July 14, 2007

Although most fans will remember Tuam as a comedian, he appeared in many films during his long career, including the 1954 classic "Plae Kow" (The Wound).

Even when he was very ill from heart disease, diabetes and other ailments, he remained good tempered. He would pose for the camera and show his kindness to everyone who visited him at the hospital. He thanked all the people who helped him.

The comedian and actor did not do well financially and survived on donations from his friends. He never married and had no children.

His contribution to society was recognised by Her Majesty the Queen, who graciously took care of his hospital treatment.

His royal-sponsored cremation will take place at 4pm on July 21.
