Cabinet approves the prohibition of cell phone usage while driving.
The Cabinet meeting approved on Tueday the draft legislation to prohibit motorists to use cell phones or other communication devices while driving. But the draft allowed the usage of hand-free devices.
The draft would have to be submitted for the National Legislative Assembly's consideration before implementation.
PM's Office's assistant spokesman Chotechai Suwannaporn, announced the Cabinet approved the draft to prohibit cell phone and other communication device usage while driving except the drivers used hand-free devices.
The Cabinet also authorised the national police chief to issue exemptions for cell phone usage while driving for police cars, army vehicles, ambulances and rescue foundation trucks to be in line with the Cabinet resolution on April 3, 2007, he said.
The draft would be submitted to the NLA before implementation.
