Extra pays proposed as incentive for interrogators

A police committee yesterday proposed raising extra pays to police interrogators to the same level received by other fellow government officials doing similar works.

Pol Lt General Wanchai Srinualnad, a member of the Developments of Police Works Committee, cited pay scales of agents under the Department of Special Investigation as examples.

The officer said the raise would attach police interrogators to their line of work rather than change to other fields including crime suppression or support units. The raise would also be provided along with career developments and training courses.

He said a police station chief now received extra pays of Bt5,600 on top of the salary of 21,550, while a DSI agent holding an equivalent post currently enjoyed the Bt35,000 amount apart from their monthly salary.

To not burden the Royal Thai Police with financial constraint, the raise would be approved half the amount for the first time for qualified positions and the other half in the next few years. He said the raise would cost the RTP around Bt500 millions in the first raise and and Bt1 billion after the raise was completely approved
