Charter for half the price

The Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) yesterday revealed that writing the new constitution would cost Bt114 million.

The amount was less than half the allocated budget of Bt269 million.

The main expenditure was Bt61 million spent by the 35-member Constitution Drafting Committee chaired by Prasong Soonsiri.

The committee was allocated Bt98 million. Its key spending included Bt1.1 million in meeting allowances, Bt2.3 million for organising public hearings and Bt1.3 million for food and snacks served in charter-writing sessions.

The CDA's Public Relations Committee spent Bt17 million out of Bt79 million earmarked to publicise the draft constitution.

The CDA has about 12 committees, each of which spent Bt3 million on average.

Its committee in charge of drawing up rules for the referendum was the most frugal, spending a mere Bt246,090 of its Bt4-million budget.
