NextBase SDV 485

NextBase's SDV485 is a new model mobile tablet-style DVD player, which doubles as multi-format digital mobile entertainment centre.

Many improvements have been made over previous models.

Now it can play popular digital music formats - MP3 and WMA (Windows Media Audio) - stored on either a USB flash drive or a flash memory card. It can also play WMV (Windows Media Video), MPEG4, MPEG2, and DivX video files stored on either a USB flash drive or memory card.

The player has a USB port although it supports only the slow transfer format of USB 1.1 instead of USB 2.0. The SDV485 also has a built-in SD/MS/MS-Pro/MMC card reader.

Unlike previous models which require an external television tuner, the SDV485 has a built-in tuner, which is easy to use and has better reception.

It features sharp and clear 8.5-inch 16:9 true colour TFT display with 1440 (W) x 234 (H) dot pixels, compared with the 7-inch screen of most earlier models.

Its built-in speakers deliver good quality sound but the sound system could be further enhanced with the use of high-end headphones. The player can also transmit its sound to the FM tuner in a car.

The SDV485 is easy to use. You can load a DVD disc, a music CD, a video CD or MP3 disc onto the top-loader drive and the player springs into action immediately.

In the case of the video disc, the player will play movies automatically, but when you load MP3 or video files stored on a memory card or USB drive, the player will display the list of files for you to select to play.

The player is 260 mm long, 175.6 mm wide and 26.5 mm high and weighs 750 grams without external battery.

The provided 3,000mAh, 7.2V, Ni-MH doubles as its stand but the battery makes the player quite heavy.

When used inside a car, it can be mounted on the car's seat back with the carrying case provided and can be powered by the car's cigarette lighter with an adapter.

The SDV485 now has a lower price compared with previous models. It retails for Bt13,900 and can be bought in 10 interest-free instalments.

NextBase SDV485 from a Hong Kong manufacturer is distributed in Thailand by Good Luck World Business, the Thai partner of NextBase.
