National artist Thongbai passed away

National artist Thongbai Ruangnont Tuesday passed away at the age of 81 inside his home in Bangkok's Pom Prab district.

Office of the National Culture Commission (ONCC) said Thongbai died of old age.

His funeral was held at the Khae Nang Lerng Temple. The royally-sponsored bathing ceremony for Thongbai would take place at 6 pm Wednesday.

ONCC will also provide Bt135,000 financial assistance to Thongbai's family.

In 1997, Thongbai was named a national artist in the performing arts field.
