Vorapoj, 42, graduated from Kajamongkol Institute of Technology at Bangkok Technic Campus, majoring in electrical engineering, then he started to work as an engineer at Toyota. His life changed from the electrical field to entertainment when he applied to work at EMI.
"I graduated in electrical engineering. I can work in my favourite areas such as music and new media even though my work is in a different area to my study," said Vorapoj.
He entered the digital music and new media world 10 years ago when EMI (Thailand) was looking for a local and international marketing officer. Vorapoj applied for his new job in the entertainment and music industry.
"I liked to listen when I was young. It is very lucky for me that I can work in an area I like - the fun business and the entertainment business. Every company that I joined I have had the opportunity to do my favourite things and the chance to do a great job," he said.
With his position as director of New Media at RS Promotion, he is responsible for business based on new media including websites and international music copyright. He set up the new media team with four staff. The new business unit started to turn from a content-owner into a copyright- and content-provider.
In the early stages, RS Promotion joined with True Corporation to provide entertainment content over an Internet broadband service. The service included free music, music videos, and movie trailers. The firm also joined with Acer and True Corporation to create an entertainment offering that enabled users to download more than 50 top music videos by RS artists, while more songs could be added by purchasing certain cards. RS Promotion now provides entertainment on network infrastructure via www.mixiclub.com.
He added that in the first year, the new business unit created revenue of less than Bt1 million. Since then it has generated more than Bt200 million.
"The new media business is a trend of the market," said Vorapoj.
"Entertainment content is also a fast-growing segment that is projected to contribute Bt200 million to Bt300 million to RS's total sales," said Vorapoj.
