Thailand to field two sides: coach

[SOCCER] Thailand coach Chanvit Pholchivin said he would take the same approach as in the earlier match by fielding two different sides against amateur side TSV Lennarts in the Asian Cup team's second warm-up match of their German trip today.
"We'll divide the team into two sides and let them play in each half. I want to give all the players a chance to play. It will help me assess their individual performances and find the right player for each position," said Chanvit, who will look for an improvement from his team, which had an unconvincing 2-1 win over a makeshift Fulda side on Saturday. Chanvit insisted the two-week training camp in Germany is proving beneficial to his team even though they did not face any strong opposition as earlier reported. Initially, it was understood that Chanvit's men would have a game with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund's reserve team in their tune-up fixture but that was a misunderstanding. "The Fulda game was a precursor to what we could face in our first two matches in the Asian Cup. Iraq and Oman will play defensive and wait for a counter-attack opportunity. "Against Fulda it was a test of penetrating the zoning defence and handling the counter-attack. Our players often forget their role and position. The problem gets exposed when we put emphasis on attacking. We'll try to sort it out in the final phase of the preparation," said Chanvit. The atmosphere in the training camp was livelier yesterday following the arrival of Football Association of Thailand president Worawi Makudi and Kittiratt Na Ranong, the team manager, who dropped in to lend their support to the players. Kittiratt initially planned to attend the game between Iraq and Palestine on a scouting mission but cancelled the trip after he got hold of two tapes of the Iraq match. Kittiratt said there would be a special match on July 3 at Thephassadin stadium, in which two Asian Cup sides face each other. The game will be a final trial before Chanvit picks his final 23-member squad.
