Teerasil is promising:Chanvit

[SOCCER] National coach Chanvit Pholchivin has singled out teenager Teerasil Dangda for high praise for his performance in the ongoing training camp in Germany.

Chanvit hinted that the 19-year-old, who was promoted from the pre-Olympic team along with star striker Teeratep "Leesaw" Winothai, has a pretty good chance to be included in the final squad for the upcoming Asian Cup.

"He [Teerasil] has improved a lot since joining the camp. He has quickly adapted himself to the senior players. We should keep an eye on him as he is quite eager to learn. He has a chance to make it to the final squad," Chanvit said.

"Other lads were equally enthusiastic during the training. I have been in football circles for many years and coached many teams but this is the first time I have felt very happy in preparing a team. This group of players is quite different and very keen to learn," Chanvit said.

The coach said the team was focused on defending after their vulnerability to long balls was exposed in Saturday's warm-up match against a makeshift Fulda team.

"In the Asian Cup, we will face taller opponents in Iraq, Oman and Australia. They would bombard us from the air. Hence, it is necessary for us to close down the opposition's play on the wings.

"It's almost impossible that we could do that for all 90 minutes but we have to make sure that there won't be any room for error," said Chanvit.

Chanvit conceded that he had still not set any criteria to select players from the provisional 30-member team, which he has to trim down to 23. The possibility that five overseas-based players, including key midfielder Datsakorn Thonglao, might not play in the last tune-up match against Qatar on June 30 is giving Chanvit a headache.

"I hope our five foreign-based players can play in the Qatar match. If they don't play, I will have a problem. I won't be able to compare their form with that of the players who are training here," said Chanvit whose side will face amateur side TSV Lennarts in their second warm-up match of their German trip tomorrow [Thursday].
