Queen's hand operated on

Her Majesty the Queen Sirikit yesterday underwent an operation on the middle finger of her left hand to treat occasional stiffness around the tendon of the finger.
Five doctors performed the operation on Her Majesty at Phra Mongkutklao Hospital. They advised Her Majesty to rest for two weeks following the operation.Accompanied by her daughters and granddaughters, HM the Queen arrived at the hospital at around 5pm and was greeted by Council for National Security chairman Sonthi Boonyaratglin and many other high-profile figures. The Queen smiled and showed her left hand to Sonthi and said her condition was not serious. People also crowded the hospital area to express their good wishes, many waving light-blue flags bearing HM the Queen's initials. Shortly before 6pm, His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej also arrived at the hospital. The Royal Household Bureau said a team of orthopaedic surgeons recommended the operation after the middle finger of Her Majesty's left hand became stiff again, even though physical therapy and medication had considerably reduced the stiffness. The stiffness had been causing difficulty when HM the Queen was carrying out her duties.
