Boonsak battles back from brink

[BADMINTON] Boonsak Ponsana's remarkable run of form continued yesterday when he battled back from the brink of defeat to beat Indonesia's Ari Yuli Wahyu Hartanto and book his place in the men's singles second round at the Djarum Indonesia Open Series in Jakarta yesterday.
Boonsak, the world No 11, who on Sunday ended his almost three-year title drought with a victory at the Singapore Open, recovered from a set down to beat the Indonesian qualifier 14-21 24-22 21-17 in the opener. The Thai next takes on another Indonesian player Taufik Hidayat. Boonsak has lost to the Indonesian in all of their five previous encounters, most recently in the China Open last October. In the mixed doubles, his compatriots Sudket Prapakamol and Saralee Thungthongkam ousted French pair Svetoslav Stoyanov and Elodie Eymard 21-15 21-17 in the first round. The Thai duo will take on Han Sang-hoon and Hwang Yu-mi of South Korea in the second round. However, other Thai players made early exits and had to fly home. In the mixed doubles, Songpon Anukrittayawan and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul went down to Laas Paaske and Mette Schjoldager of Denmark 21-8 27-25. In the women's doubles, Duang-anong Aroonkesorn and Kunchala were routed 21-9 21-8 by Zhao Tingting and Yang Wei of China in the first round.
